Karti Subramanian

Karti co-founded Vera Solutions and has worked on dozens of Salesforce and Force.com implementations using mobile, SMS, OCR, and other technology for health, agriculture, and development organizations all over the world. He was previously a financial analyst in the investment banking divisions of Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital, has several years’ experience running small businesses, and holds a BA in Economics from Amherst College. He is currently a graduate student at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, while continuing to advise on and support Vera’s growth.

Ayo Oti

Ayo wants to provide guidance to organizations and companies looking to positively impact society by offering support in strategy development, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and stakeholder engagement. Previously, she worked as a M&E Coordinator for public health nonprofit Sacred Valley Health in Peru and Program Coordinator for the NYC Mayor’s Office municipal AmeriCorps Program. She holds a BA in International Environmental Public Health and Human Ecology from the Macaulay Honors College at CCNY and the CUNY Baccalaureate for Unique and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Margot is Vera’s Managing Director. After working with Vera for two years in Nairobi, she now leads a team of consultants in Boston. Her background is in politics, international development and conflict resolution. She has worked for NGOs large and small in South Africa, Zambia, and Sierra Leone. Margot holds an MA from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where she concentrated on peacebuilding with a focus on monitoring and evaluation of social service organizations. She also holds a BA in History from Stanford University. She is a certified Force.com Developer.

Meeghan has an eclectic background in business, technology and conflict resolution. She melds all of these passions to support social entrepreneurship and grassroots projects globally. While completing her MA in Conflict Resolution at Georgetown University, she specialized in monitoring and evaluation systems for sports and peacebuilding organizations. Meeghan also holds a BA in International Relations from Brown University.

Kritika Bhargava

Kritika is passionate about enabling and building a conducive ecosystem for social enterprises and other organizations to cater to the bottom of the pyramid population. Before Vera, Kritika worked with B-ABLE for three years and was a part of the start-up team there. At B-ABLE, she was a core member of the team that developed the first Vocational Training Management System on the Force.com cloud, contextualized for Indian organizations. She is a ’09 graduate from IIT Kanpur and majored in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering. She is a certified Salesforce Developer.

Tilly is Vera’s Director of Partnerships. Before stepping into this role, Tilly led and managed Vera’s consulting team in Mumbai. She has more than 10 years of experience working for NGOs, international technology firms, and corporate foundations in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions. Tilly is passionate about working with dedicated teams and radically improving organizational systems and processes through innovative applications of cloud and mobile technology.

Matthew Miller

Matthew loves solving problems, whether it is designing a data model for an unusual client requirement or debugging code. Before coming to Vera, Matthew spent time as an intern journalist in South Africa and as a teaching assistant for a summer college course in Kenya and Tanzania. He is interested in the business of technology, product development, and user experience design. Matthew holds a BA in History and Literature (Postcolonial Studies track) from Harvard and is a certified Force.com Developer.

Charlie’s background draws from both the fields of social science and social service. In addition to his previous research work in India, he has co-directed a homeless shelter in Boston and interned at the White House. Megan’s background in multimedia journalism sparked her interest in data collection, visualization, and dissemination, while her experience in human rights reporting and international development motivate her passion for social change. Megan has worked in the media, non-profit, and governmental sectors in North America, Asia, and Africa, including South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where she investigated ethnic land conflict. Megan holds an MA in Journalism and Mass Communication from UNC-Chapel Hill and a BA in History and Literature (Postcolonial Studies) from Harvard. She is a certified Force.com Developer.

Saket is a Computer Science graduate from Amity University, Noida, a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan, and a firm believer in the power of technology and transparency to build a better society. The developer will primarily be responsible for Force.com development—Visualforce and Apex code, based primarily on HTML and Java—in Vera sites and systems. The developer will be surrounded by a fast-moving team with diverse backgrounds and skill-sets. The developers work will focus on Vera’s portfolio of global health projects, building systems that improve operations for world-leading global health organizations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Work closely with consultants to design, build, and implement online apps for global health organizations

• Research new technologies, applications, and tools relevant to non-profits

• Drive internal communications efforts including sharing latest best practices and research

• Gain valuable experience and knowledge of Force.com (the world’s leading cloud-computing platform currently used by more than 100,000 for-profit and 17,000 non-profit organizations worldwide) and the implementation of online data systems in the field of global health.

Alan’s professional mission is to improve people’s wellbeing, and he has been working with grassroots and international development organizations since 2001. He has lived in Brazil, Colombia, Morocco, USA and The Netherlands. Right before joining Vera, Alan managed Women Win’s M&E system and became passionate about using technology to measure social and environmental change. He holds a MSc in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam and a BA in Administration from the University of São Paulo. Position Overview:

The Designer will work closely with our consulting and product development teams in Mumbai to design and implement intuitive, attractive UI/UX models for a series of applications marketed toward non-profit and social enterprise organizations. These apps are built on Salesforce.com, the world’s leading cloud-computing platform. Because we work in the social impact space, our end users may include field staff with limited technical capacity or slow internet connections, so user interactions should be simple and lightweight without sacrificing functionality.

The Designer will work with our product managers and consulting staff to understand the needs of the target users, whether the app is designed for a specific client organization or for a broader market. Examples might include: an Android application teachers use to take attendance in schools; a patient management system for a maternal health clinic that includes custom visualizations of health outcomes; or a tool that allows a social science research organization to allocate staff time to different projects. The Designer will create mockups/wireframes, test them with members of the team or client staff, and deliver technical specifications to our internal developers (programmers). The Designer is responsible for giving these apps visual and functional coherence, including consistency of appearance and suitable colors and icons. Our ideal candidate is excited to take ownership over this process.

This position will support Vera’s Analytics team in driving and executing business intelligence initiatives. The Analytics team focuses on extracting actionable business insights through rigorous analysis of Vera’s operations with the goal of informing Vera’s overall strategy.

In this role, you’ll see firsthand how business intelligence can help a start-up social enterprise sustainably scale up its operations and maximize its social impact. You will work closely with the Analytics Manager and other staff to understand Vera’s goals and strategies. You’ll be responsible for organizing, structuring, and analyzing data related to Vera’s operations. Day to day, tasks can range from normalizing data to developing visualizations for analyses.

In this role, you will get exposure to the finances and operations of a social enterprise, develop data analysis skills, and gain experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce and other databases, along with some data visualization tools.

• Support Analytics Team’s initiatives and work streams;

More recently he’s worked with Salesforce Platinum partner BightGen as Technical Lead, overseeing high-value Salesforce system implementations with for-profit clients.

Kai Cowger

Kai joins Vera after working in six African countries to improve the data collection, analysis, and utilization of the Millennium Villages Project teams. He brings with him experience in designing applications to make health workers effective at saving the most vulnerable communities. Most recently, he worked with the Guinean Ministry of Health and the Earth Institute to help build mobile tools to combat the spread of Ebola. He is passionate about the power of data to build a more equitable and just world. He holds a BA in Biology from Macalester College and was a 2013 Global Health Corps Fellow.

Taylor Robinson

Based in Mumbai, Taylor serves as Vera’s Marketing and Communications Manager. She returns to India following her work with the Wadhwani Foundation as a William J. Clinton Fellow for Service in India. Taylor previously led communications for Grameen Foundation’s skilled volunteerism unit, Bankers without Borders, where she connected companies and individuals to technical assistance projects with microfinance institutions and NGOs around the world. She holds a Masters degree in Comparative and International Education from the University of Oxford, with a focus on inclusive and special education policy in Southern Africa, and a BA in Political Science from American University.

Peter Varnum

Peter has a diverse professional background in education, public health, and international development in the NGO, IO, and private sectors. His passion lies with the people with and for whom he’s working. A sustainable development project in Kibera, Kenya made him certain that the main driver behind social change is positive relationships, and he believes in the power of technology to help foster and maintain them. Peter earned his BA in English from Carleton College and his MA in Law and Diplomacy, with concentrations in international communication and global health policy, from The Fletcher School at Tufts University. He spends his time playing racquet sports, hiking/skiing, and traveling. He really wants a dog, but doesn’t have one yet.

Position Overview: The Director will lead Vera’s Mumbai-based consulting team to design and configure program monitoring, management, and evaluation systems for social impact organizations. The Director will be a key member of Vera’s diverse, international leadership team, driving the sustainable growth of our consulting business in India and ensuring consulting staff learn, develop, and achieve high levels of productivity.

The Director will own and manage the business unit’s operational plan and expenditure. This will include developing and managing the unit budget, ensuring revenue targets are met, and collaborating with other consultants to drive priorities and execute the plan. The Director will oversee personnel management of the consulting team, including staff recruitment, skills growth/learning of the team, and career mentorship.

The Director will oversee the consulting business’s client portfolio, driving key consulting projects, managing client relationships, and coaching project managers and team members through the entirety of a project’s lifecycle — gathering system requirements, building cloud-based data systems and mobile data collection tools, and providing training to system users. Additionally, the Director will represent the business externally, driving lead generation and sales.

Nick comes to Vera with considerable experience working in research across a variety of fields, including agricultural development, international trade law, and maternal and childhood nutrition. Driven by an understanding of how good data leads to effective change, Nick is excited to help partners fully realize their organization’s potential. Before joining Vera Nick spent more than three years overseeing a large randomized control trial in Ghana evaluating a complementary food supplement for infants. Nick holds a BA in Plant Genetics from Cornell University and both an MS in Nutrition Science and Policy and an MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Friedman and Fletcher Schools at Tufts University.
