Last week, B Lab announced the recipients of its annual Best for the World awards. We are proud to share that Vera Solutions secured a spot on the list for Best for the World: Long Term. Vera has been a Certified B Corporation since 2012, and we are thrilled to be recognized this year as one of the leaders of this global community.

In recent years, the B Corp stamp has become a marker of credibility in social enterprise circles. B Lab, a non-profit founded in 2006 to catalyze a global movement for social responsibility in the private sector, is dedicated to rigorously evaluating the social and environmental performance, and accountability and transparency practices, of thousands of companies. So far, it has bestowed the B Corp badge on more than 2000 organizations that are prioritizing “profit with purpose.”

Vera was founded in 2010 on the idea of amplifying the impact of innovative organizations by transforming their ability to collect, analyze, and use data more effectively and we remain true to this mission seven years later. “For Vera, being a Certified B Corp is about validating not only what we do, but how we do it. We want to be part of a community of people committed to solving social problems and thinking holistically about their work,” said Vera COO, Sam Gordon. Vera has frequently tapped into this network as many of the 200+ social impact organizations we partner with – including organizations like x-runner Venture, the first Peruvian company to be certified, and iluMéxico – are also B Corps.

Breaking it Down

B Lab’s Best for the World list honors organizations that are leading the way toward a more socially responsible world. In making it onto the Best for the Long Term list, Vera is one of 186 companies from 79 different industries and 13 countries committed to transparency, accountability and creating positive impact both in the way we work and the services we deliver.

“Long Term” status is awarded to companies who score in the top 10% of all B Corps on the Governance section of the standard B Impact Assessment that takes into account the company’s mission, ethics, accountability, and transparency as well as how it interacts with its employees, board members, and the communities it serves.

At Vera, we develop technology solutions that foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, and data-informed decision-making. Vera strives to maintain an open line of communication with current and past clients while still providing the training and guidance to ultimately enable organizations to take ownership over their own data, allowing them to operate more effectively. This award serves as a recognition of our own commitment to the principles of accountability and sustainability that we work to enable and inspire in our clients’ work.

Our “Long Term” potential is also evidenced in our company’s internal structure. We pride ourselves on bringing together employees with a wide range of social sector backgrounds to best serve our partners that are similarly variant in their goals and missions.

We are driven to make collecting data and measuring progress easier for our clients — the B Impact Assessment allows us to efficiently reflect on our own practices through the lens of a third party evaluator. In the coming years, we hope to continue to lean on B Lab for evidence-based feedback on our own external and internal commitment to positive impact.
