This September, UN member states met in New York to ratify the Global Goals, committing to 17 goals that will act as a blueprint for global development over the next 15 years. The ambitious agenda – which tackles poverty, climate change and inequality for all people in all countries – was confirmed by 193 countries. For the next six weeks, Vera will highlight the work of partner organizations contributing to the Global Goals.

“They are a to-do list for people and planet, and a blueprint for success. To achieve these new global goals, we will need your high-level political commitment. We will need a renewed global partnership.” -Ban Ki Moon, UN Secretary General

Global Goal Number 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Vera Partner: Drinkwell Systems

Drinkwell, a social enterprise improving water quality and livelihoods in arsenic-affected communities in India and Bangladesh, effects change with an innovative, resin filter technology and a community-owned water franchising model.

To scale and deliver their services more effectively, Drinkwell needed a way to collect, transmit and track water quality and franchise data from their wells in remote, low bandwidth areas. Vera configured Open Data Kit (ODK) surveys that allow Drinkwell well caretakers to collect and transmit water quality and water usage data from community wells to the headquarters team from an Android device. The application allows staff to log servicing requests when wells require engineering assistance. The system is linked to a Salesforce backend, allowing Drinkwell to track and compare performance of all franchisees and monitor water quality and usage trends overtime.
